What is Champions Trophy Hybrid Model that Pak-Ind has agreed upon
Since the start of 2024, there have been talks that India might visit Pakistan to fully take part in the Champions Trophy event; however, it always depended on who would be on the administration side of the Indian government and, of course, the monopoly BCCI that holds the largest share in the ICC and an Indian controlling ICC management nowadays, he is the son of Indian State official Amit Shah called Jay Shah.
India has been dominating ICC since 2009, when BCCI changed its entire structure and started buying the rights to it itself to control ICC revenue model by gunpoint. It is a fact that Pakistan has been on the losing end when it comes to winning matches or management in both departments.
Pakistan has been on the losing side due to its mismanagement, and it is one of the major reasons Pakistan PCB voices is not heard as it should be. The same happened in the Champions Trophy 2025, where all matches should have been played in Pakistan; however, India objected, and again it created a non-issue an issue because Pakistan had no problem visiting India; it did in recent times to play ICC major events in India.
However, surprisingly, India treats Pakistan oppositely, and they feel insulted to visit Pakistan for any kind of event or sports activity.
This time Pakistan avoided the trap of ICC and BCCI. This time Pakistan smartly objected to any demands and issues raised by India. Pakistan raised issues and asked India that this time the issues and demands will be documented, not verbally, and then there was a deadlock created. PCB suggested that India should visit Pakistan and sports should not be dragged into politics.
However, it was not a surprise; India did not agree with the suggestion and decided not to visit Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025 as their final decision. Moreover, the issue got stalled, and there were rumors that the 2025 Champions Trophy might get cancelled, which could have created a loss for BCCI and ICC as they would have to compensate PCB for breach of promise, contract, and revenue loss.
Therefore, PCB then suggested a hybrid model in which any match India plays with any opposition won’t be played in Pakistan at any event, and the same follows for Pakistan: any events that are held in India, Pakistan will not play in India against any opposition.
Moreover, both agreed that the UAE is a neutral avenue, and their matches will be played there for the upcoming events, which are held in Pakistan or India including Champions Trophy 2025, which is to be held in Pakistan.
