Trump offered Canada

Trump offered Canada to become the 51st state of the USA.

There is a serious tension between newly elected US President Donald Trump and Canadian PM Justin Trudeau. Since the start of Dec 2024, both heads of state are not getting along, and Donald Trump's recent statement has caused a lot of impact in Canada and resignations of Canadian officials.

Donald Trump is demanding Canadian PM Justin Trudeau's resignation so that both countries diplomatic tension can be eased and the relationship between the two countries can be better. Moreover, due to the tension between the USA and Canada, Trump offered Canadians to become the 51st state of the USA.

1) What did Trump offer to Canadians in return for becoming the 51st state?

The US president offered Canada to become the USA’s 51st state, and in return their taxes would be cut down to 60%, which would ease off inflation in Canada, increasing purchasing power. Their businessman would be earning much more and doing proper business like no other would.

Moreover, Trump also offered that their protection would be guaranteed and guarded by the most powerful military in the world. Trump also offered a subsidy of up to USD 100 billion; otherwise, he warned that Canada might face a 25% tariff on Canadian imports, which would impact every business in Canada. He said that this is a great idea and Canada should think carefully about it.

Yes, Canada has the issue of very high taxes, a low population, and many businesses are generating low income according to their standard, which is causing a lot of issues for the Canadian government, but the debate is whether this offer can be practically possible for Canada to become the 51st state of the USA.

2) Is it possible for Canada to become the 51st state of the USA?

First of all, Trump has a history of making bluffs with his tweets and claims, and at times his tweets and offers are 90% a bluff and nonpractical according to his own official. Therefore, this suggestion can be a chance that it is just a pressure tactic for the current Canadian PM to resign and then go towards a wait-and-see policy.

If this offer is serious, then it is not as easy as it seems. First of all, Canadian officials have to go towards changing the monarchy to a republic system, and then it will bring Canadian officials into section 41 of the Canada Act 1982. Moreover, if they are serious, then Canada would be required to dissolve its union, senate, and house of commons, and most importantly, every single Canadian official and elected representative has to agree on the legislation.

Moreover, even the USA has to go through both houses, and the official must have 60 supermajority votes in both of the houses. Therefore, it is not as easy as it seems, especially for Canada; therefore, it can take a decade for an official agreement, and both states have to go through a lengthy procedure and process.
