Senators Demand Halt on FBR’s Car Purchase Amid Allegations of Misuse of Taxpayer Funds
Today, in the Senate Standing Committee on Finance, senators grilled an FBR official about ordering 1010 Honda Cities cars within 5 months.
The chairperson of the Standing Committee on Finance said, Why was FBR in such a hurry? Why was this not scrutinized by the parliamentarians, which is mandatory for any kind of bulk purchase by FBR. Moreover, all senators were surprised by FBR that they could place an order for 1010 cars without having any authority.
Faisal Vawda raised the issue and said that this is a major scam and scandal by and FBR has no authority to purchase cars on such a massive scale. FBR was warned to halt the purchase.
Moreover, all senators agreed that this was a major scam done by FBR to illegally enjoy perks and privileges. He said that people are burdened by huge taxes and FBR is thinking about ways to enjoy those taxes.
Chairman of the Standing Committee for Finance, Senator Mandviwalla, agreed with Senator Faisal and said why was FBR in such a hurry to purchase these cars? FBR Why were they in such a rush? Is FBR collecting tax on bicycles? Does FBR not have any cars? Does FBR collect taxes or travel by bus or cab? These were the harsh questions raised by senators.
Additionally, the chairman of the Standing Committee on Finance ordered a halt to the purchase and asked the FBR to report back and did not agree with the FBR's excuse that these purchases were to enhance field officers' tax collection and enforcement. These cars will have live trackers as well; however, all senators agreed and ordered FBR to halt the purchase of 1010 cars.
