Scientists Recreate 12500 Years Old Wolf by Using Ancient DNA
A Dallas-based biotech company has successfully created pups by using 12,500-year-old wolf DNA published by CNN. This is the first time that genetic editing has been done to recreate a 12,500-year-old species by its DNA. Moreover, science has advanced so much that now it is able to create animals by their DNA and reshape them, or it can alter their DNA to modify them as well.
CNN reported that Colossal scientists have successfully recreated three species that were extinct 12,500 years ago. Moreover, it was done via ancient DNA of a wolf. CNN reports that cloning and gene-editing technology was used as well to alter the genes of the gray wolf. However, the company clarified that they are a hybrid species at the moment, and they are very similar and look alike to their ancestors. The inspiration came from one of the very best TV series, called Game of Thrones, and the dire wolf was considered the top predator.

Additionally, the scientist was able to use the information gathered from the genetic analysis, which was able to alter gray wolf cells; it required 15 to 20 edits in 14 genes. Moreover, it ensured that cloning was the most promising cell line, and then it transferred to the donor eggs.
The company was told that two male pups were born on October 1st, 2024, and then one female pup was born on January 30th via 12,500-year-old wolf DNA in 2025. Additionally, the company name is Colossal Biosciences. Moreover, research has been done to ensure that pups are healthy and there are no hassles and issues in the future.
