Pakistan Trade deficit reduced for the month of March

Pakistan's trade deficit fell nearly 7.5% for the month of March, signaling that Pakistan might post another current account surplus. Pakistan has been very lucky due to overseas Pakistanis sending remittance inflows to Pakistan to support their families and their loved ones in these difficult economic conditions. Moreover, Pakistan also adopted the approach that they will ensure importing figures will be conditioned on their means of exports and remittance because if Pakistan again starts to post a large current deficit, then it won't be able to sustain this.

PBS (Pakistan Bureau of Statistics) has posted the figures of Pakistan's exports and imports. Pakistan has exported goods worth US 2.617 billion dollars for the month of March, and Pakistan has imported goods worth US 4.736 billion dollars for the month of March. Pakistan's goods exported in March 2025 are higher than in March 2025. Moreover, goods imported in March 2025 are lower than in March 2025. Pakistan exported goods worth US 2.490 billion dollars, and they imported goods worth US 4.789 billion dollars for the month of March 2024.

Moreover, the trade deficit has fallen to US 2.119 billion dollars, and it is safe to assume that Pakistan might again post a current account surplus after posting a couple of months of a current account deficit. Moreover, it is expected that remittance inflows might be higher compared to February 2025 figures, and they will migrate the trade balance and help Pakistan to improve their external inflow figures.

The Pakistani government has been avoiding expensive loans from international commercial banks and friendly countries thanks to the overseas Pakistanis' contribution of sending large remittance inflows to Pakistan, which has helped Pakistan to convince the IMF and secure the first review of the IMF, which provides Pakistan with US 1.3 billion dollars soon via the IMF.
