India faces Guillain-Barre syndrome outbreak in Pune.

We have witnessed and suffered due to the Covid-19 outbreaks globally, and they have caused massive damage to the economy, and all countries are still suffering from its shocks, and now India is facing a surprise and sudden outbreak of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS).

What is Guillain-Barré syndrome? 

Guillain-Barré syndrome occurs when the nerve system is attacked by the body's immune system, which causes weakness and paralysis in the affected person. It is reported that the first symptoms are weakness, hands and legs having tingling issues, and then it leads to paralysis.

Guillain-Barré syndrome Outbreak in India.

India is facing a massive and surprise outbreak of Guillain-Barré syndrome, which is causing paralysis. It is reported that the number of cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome has reached 163 in Pune. The Indian media reported that a Guillain-Barré syndrome outbreak is causing panic in the entire Maharashtra region, and it was a surprise for them and doctors were not prepared as they should have for Guillain-Barré syndrome. 

Currently, 21 people who are affected due to Guillain-Barré syndrome are on ventilators, and they are observed 24/7 so that the outbreak can be tackled timely. Additionally, 48 people who are affected due to Guillain-Barré syndrome are in ICU. 

Indian media reports that the Guillain-Barré syndrome outbreak is caused by water in the affected area. It is reported that Campylobacter jejuni is the main cause of Guillain-Barré syndrome. It is also reported that the lack of infrastructure and poor maintenance has caused the Guillain-Barré syndrome outbreak, and it has affected the 0-59 age group. Moreover, the 20-29 age group has reported the most cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome in Pune.

What is Campylobacter jejuni? 

Campylobacter jejuni is a bacterium that lives in water. It is also found in animals, and it is one of the main causes of food poisoning in the EU and USA. It can also cause diarrhea and make people ill. It is reported and estimated that around 1.5 million people in the USA get ill due to Campylobacter jejuni.
