FBR will purchase over 1000 Honda City cars within 5 months.
FBR announced that they will purchase over 1000 Honda City cars from January to May 2025. These purchased cars will be used by field officers and will provide 20,000 km of free maintenance or an extended 1 year. Moreover, 75 cars are expected to be delivered in January. 200 cars are expected to be delivered in February. 225 cars are expected to be delivered in March 250 cars are expected to be delivered in April, and the remaining 260 are expected to be delivered in May. Total expected cost overall is PKR 6 billion.
FBR says that these cars will be used for better efficiency, better tax collection, and enable a tax collection environment. FBR defended the purchase by saying if we are unable to provide facilities to our employees, then tax collection cannot be improved.
Moreover, FBR is facing a media backlash as they say that Pakistan is already in debt, having imported, etc. FBR could have gone for lower-cost cars, like the Alto, as Honda City is considered as a luxury car in Pakistan. Therefore, they could have opted for a lower-priced car, enabling their employees to use tax as an excuse to buy these cars.
