Abrar Ahmed is not a solution for Pakistan's middle overs crisis.
Yesterday, Pakistan lost to New Zealand in the final of the Tri-Nation series. It was not the issue of batting, to be honest. We can agree that we were 30 runs short; however, if Pakistan's bowling cannot take advantage of its home pitches, then what is the use of issuing such a massive budget for renovating stadiums? Pakistan ended up setting a target of 242 runs, and New Zealand chased it down by losing 5 wickets.
Pakistan has been facing a spinners issue since Hafeez and Afridi's retirement. Pakistan has produced some of the greatest spinners of all time, like Saqlain Mushtaq, Yashir Shah, Saeed Ajmal, Abdul Qadir, etc. However, when we see Abrar Ahmed being called a mystery spinner, then we wonder if Pakistan selectors maybe have a different meaning of mystery spinner, and it is itself a mystery to leave out Noman Ali and Sajid Khan for the Champions Trophy.
Abrar Ahmed in the middle overs is neither a wicket-taker nor a defender; he can not even slow down runs against any side. He usually leaks runs; the opposition wants to target him, and they succeed in it because Abrar Ahmed does not have the skills to counter it, let alone be called a mystery spinner. Pakistani cricket team selectors do have a genuine reason to select Abrar Ahmed; however, we are amazed that the Pakistani cricket team selectors ignored Sajid Khan and Noman Ali.
For example, Sri Lanka dominated Australia on their ground and won the 2nd ODI with ease. This is because they have 2 to 3 spinners in the team, who can bat as well. The Pakistan cricket team has resolved its middle-order and lower-order batting issues. However, middle-over problems are intact because of the wrong selection of players and the wrong players being hyped. It would have been better that the Pakistan selectors should have selected Shahdab Khan instead of Abrar Ahmed, because it could have at least strengthened the batting of Pakistan in the lower order, and bowling, to be honest, would have been better than Abrar Ahmed.
To win the Champions Trophy, Pakistan cannot bat first; otherwise, Abrar Ahmed will be hammered by even lower-ranked opposition due to the fact that he does not have the talent to be selected for the Zimbabwe team, and our selectors considered him as a mystery spinner. This is not an insult to Abrar Ahmed, but we are talking facts because Abrar Ahmed does not know how to spin the ball and his selection is mystery
